Optimal Design of Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer Used to Generate Lamb Wave

چکیده
Electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer is the core component of the electromagnetic ultrasonic testing equipment. This paper establishes a three-dimensional model of the electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer used to generate Lamb wave, then by uniform design experiment and finite element analysis, the paper obtains the law between the eddy current density, the conductor width, length of the coil, the lift off distance, and the permanent magnets thickness. The law is verified by the experiment. It provides an overall principle for the optimal design of electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer. Copyright © 2014 IFSA Publishing, S. L.

A New Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer Design for Generating and Receiving S0 Lamb Waves in Ferromagnetic Steel Plate
Electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) are non-contact, ultrasonic transducers that are usually kept within 5 mm from the sample surface to obtain a sufficient signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). One important issue associated with operation on a ferromagnetic plate is that the strong attraction force from the magnet can affect measurements and make scanning difficult. This paper investigates a ...
متن کاملThe Optimization of Lamb and Rayleigh Wave Generation Using Wideband-low-frequency Emats
This paper describes a non-contact ElectroMagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) that can be used to generate both Lamb and Rayleigh waves on metal samples. The generated waves are wideband and low frequency with a dominant frequency content centred on approximately 200kHz extending to around 500kHz. Detection of the waves is achieved using a linear coil detection EMAT. The transducers (generator ...
متن کاملThe Acoustoelastic Effect: EMAT Excitation and Reception of Lamb Waves in Pre-Stressed Metal Sheets
The acoustoelastic effect relates the change in the speed of an acoustic wave travelling in a solid, to the pre-stress of the propagation medium. In this work the possibility of assessing nondestructively the stress status in metal sheets, by using the acoustoelastic effect, is investigated. As the effect turns out to be very small for practical values of applied stress, the proposed technique ...
متن کاملHigh Temperature Shear Horizontal Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer for Guided Wave Inspection
Guided Wave Testing (GWT) using novel Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducers (EMATs) is proposed for the inspection of large structures operating at high temperatures. To date, high temperature EMATs have been developed only for thickness measurements and they are not suitable for GWT. A pair of water-cooled EMATs capable of exciting and receiving Shear Horizontal (SH₀) waves for GWT with optimal...
متن کاملNon-Contact Stress Measurement during Tensile Testing Using an Emat for SH0-Plate Wave and Lamb Wave
The stress on a test specimen during tensile testing is generally measured by a strain gauge. This method has some problems in that it would influence the measurement conditions of the tensile test and can evaluate only the position at which the strain gauge is attached. The acoustoelastic method is proposed as a method replacing the strain gauge method. However, an ultrasonic sensor with a pie...
